South African fixed broadband ISP Axxess has launched 5G internet packages for residential and business customers via the network of mobile operator MTN. The Axxess website advertises: ‘True 5G is a cutting-edge wireless internet connectivity solution with speeds reaching up to 500Mbps suited for both business and home.’ The site is currently offering a half-price 5G fixed router under a limited time promotion, and promises delivery of 5G SIMs and routers to new customers ‘within three days’. 5G users can expect speeds of up to 500Mbps, with the company marketing the service as ‘a fibre alternative in the home, an option for a primary business connection or as a business backup solution.’

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Axxess has been wholly owned by Afrihost since July 2011, and the group provides services via access agreements with various infrastructure operators over a range of platforms including xDSL, fixed LTE (FDD), fibre-to-the-home (FTTH), TD-LTE-Advanced and now fixed 5G, alongside a mobile resale service launched in November 2015 (also in partnership with MTN).
