Brazil’s Ministry of Communications has announced the launch of a project to study the feasibility of using 5G fixed wireless access (5G FWA) in public schools. 5G FWA has a quality comparable to fibre optics, but with lower installation and investment costs. A pilot project with the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (ABDI) and the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) will evaluate the feasibility of using this technology in schools.

Separately, the Ministry also launched a partnership with the ABDI and the Itaipu Technological Park (PTI) that foresees the operation of a robot dog, produced by Boston Dynamics, using 5G. In addition to being useful for industrial inspection, the robot could help reduce risk to human life in dangerous operations.
