Tele2 Sweden says it is launching the world’s first commercial autonomous passenger ferry, by providing 5G/IoT connectivity to the M/S Estellie vessel, operating in central Stockholm. Tele2 added that the ferry has a large number of IoT sensors and control systems onboard, and data is continuously sent to the cloud, which requires reliable, high-capacity connectivity, while noting that at launch there will be a crew on the ferry, but the ambition is to drive completely autonomously with back-up remote control.
