Vietnamese mobile operator MobiFone has expanded its 5G trial network to the city of Hue in Thua Thien Hue province. The commercial test network will allow consumers with 5G-enabled handsets to experience maximum download speeds of 1Gbps in central areas of the city. Hue is the second city where consumers are able to trial MobiFone’s 5G service, with the cellco having launched its first test network in Ho Chi Minh City in December 2020. The operator says it plans to expand 5G trials to other cities and provinces across the country in the near future.

According to Vietnam Investment Review, MobiFone deployed Ericsson’s spectrum technology and undertook carrier aggregation (CA) of its existing 1800MHz with 2600MHz frequencies for the first time in the pilot of 5G services in Hue.
