Telefonica Moviles El Salvador, which operates under the Movistar brand, has begun deployment of its 5G-ready mobile network. InformaTVX cites the company’s CEO Luis Del Cid as saying that around USD280 million will initially be invested in the network, which will eventually cover more than 95% of the population. Rollout will continue into next year, with a launch of commercial services expected to follow when the required spectrum becomes available.
‘Our new 5G-ready network is a true reflection of the confidence we have in the country’s future and the desire to provide Salvadorans with access to state-of-the-art services. Access to this type of technology is a platform to rapidly boost the competitive capacity of the country’s productive sector. This investment positions us as a strategic partner that drives the technological transformation of El Salvador,’ the executive said, adding: ‘Movistar has a proven history of bringing about the modernisation of the telecoms market. And today with the investment that we are announcing, and that begins with the deployment of our 5G-ready network, we confirm that we lead the future of our industry in the country.’
