Vodafone Germany has announced the launch of Voice over New Radio (VoNR), enabling customers in select locations to make calls via its 5G network for the first time. The service offers faster call connections and clearer voice quality, while also saving battery life. VoNR has so far been activated at over 300 mobile sites in the cities of Leipzig, Frankfurt and Dusseldorf for customers with the Samsung S23 smartphone range, but in the coming months Vodafone will gradually expand 5G calling to other locations and for additional handsets.

In addition, Vodafone has revealed that 5G coverage now reaches 67 million Germans, representing 81% of the population, via 41,000 antennas. Its 5G Standalone (5G SA) network, meanwhile, covers 25 million people, via 4,200 5G+ stations with around 12,500 antennas. Since the start of the year, the firm has set up 292 new LTE stations and 77 5G stations, closing more than 300 ‘dead spots’. New LTE or 5G technology was also installed in more than 1,170 existing stations.
