Spanish infrastructure operator Cellnex said it has again teamed up with top-tier La Liga football team Real Betis to install a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) at the latter’s Benito Villamarin Stadium. The deal to convert the venue into a genuine smart stadium follows an agreement to create a multi-operator 5G infrastructure that ensures the best digital experience for its fans.

In a statement, Cellnex said the new high capacity, low latency system will prevent data saturation and allow spectators to access match-day footage on their mobile devices on match days, including action replays and live information, even when the stadium reaches its 60,000 capacity.

Real Betis and Cellnex have also tested an application in partnership with Synamedia that offers allows fans to enjoy a live audiovisual experience on their mobile phones via real-time edge streaming video footage from eight cameras.

The app will allow them to rewind the video stream from all angles to avoid missing a single detail of the match. They’ll be able to see the game’s most significant events, such as goals, penalties and fouls, as well as checking line-ups, statistics and other relevant data via their smartphones.

The system also comes with a novel feature in the form of a channel with a real-time audio description for spectators with visual disabilities.
