AT&T Mobility must pay USD 166.3 million in damages for violating US-based patent-holding company Finesse Wireless’ patent rights with its 4G and 5G wireless networks, Reuters reports, citing a decision by jury in an East Texas federal court. The jury decided the operator’s networks that use Nokia-made equipment in cell towers break two patents related to reducing wireless-signal interference owned by Finesse. The jury rejected AT&T and Nokia’s argument that the patents are invalid.
In the lawsuit, Finesse accused AT&T of incorporating its patented technology for reducing interference from other signals.
Nokia and AT&T said in a joint statement that they disagreed with the verdict and are considering an appeal. Finesse’s lead attorney Joe Grinstein of Susman Godfrey said in a statement that the firm was pleased with the verdict.
