Indian cellco Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio) has announced the activation of its Standalone (SA) 5G mobile network in the latest batch of 20 additional cities across eleven states/union territories (UT), bringing its total ‘True 5G’ footprint to 277 cities across 31 states/UT (of the country’s total 36 states/UT) as of 21 February 2023, up from 184 cities reached one month earlier. Jio notes that it is the first 5G operator in the majority of the newly covered cities, including ‘important tourism and commerce destinations as well as key education hubs,’ offering new users the ‘Jio Welcome Offer’ with promotional ‘unlimited data at up to 1Gbps-plus speeds’ at no additional cost. Jio uses a mix of 5G spectrum across 700MHz, 3500MHz and 26GHz bands with Carrier Aggregation technology.
