Tele2 Lithuania, the country’s largest mobile operator by subscriptions, has activated 5G network access for its pre-paid ‘Pildyk’ customers. In order to connect to the high speed service, customers require a 5G-ready tariff and compatible smartphone, including a range of devices from Apple and Samsung. Tele2 switched on its 5G network in the capital Vilnius using spectrum in the 700MHz and 3.5GHz bands in September last year, and is installing 5G network equipment in all Baltic countries together with Nokia.
Commenting on the development, Petras Masiulis, Tele2’s CEO for the Baltic States, said: ‘We are rapidly expanding the 5G network and keeping our promise to provide quality services at a good price. In September of last year, 5G communication started working on the Tele2 network, and now Pildyk customers, who make up the largest part of the pre-paid service market, will be able to use ultra-fast internet. Pildyk’s 5G connection services will work everywhere where Tele2’s 5G connection normally works.’
