Telefonica (Movistar) is deploying additional 5G coverage in no fewer than 500 Spanish tourist locations this summer, offering ultra-high speed connectivity in coastal and inland areas during the high season. The cellco’s fifth-generation network now serves some 442 coastal towns and 56 inland resorts in areas in Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, the Valencian Community, Catalonia, Galicia, Cantabria, and Asturias, as well as having 14 temporary units in place for high-demand events and camping sites. Furthermore, it notes that even small towns (<1,000 inhabitants) such as Esterri d’Aneu (Lleida), Parada del Sil (Ourense), Enix (Almería) and Villares del Saz (Cuenca) are able to access Movistar’s 5G signal, with the company looking to utilise both the 700MHz and 3.5GHz frequency bands to offer both enhanced coverage for indoor spaces and increased speeds across larger areas.
