Globe has announced it has completed the trial of 5G Standalone technology in various applications.

In a statement, the company said that the live trial has showcased 5G Standalone’s potential to transform business operations and improve efficiency, performance and flexibility.

In a recent demo, Globe showed how cloud gaming, a virtual reality laboratory, video conferencing, video surveillance and analytics, and remote assistance worked well using 5G Standalone with end-to-end network slicing, which divides the network into separate channels.

5G Standalone offers a wide range of benefits, including faster download and upload speeds, better connectivity and the ability to support new and emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), virtual reality, and augmented reality.

5G Standalone relies exclusively on 5G connectivity, an upgrade from 5G Non-Standalone, which still uses the 4G/LTE network.

“Experiencing 5G will be the new wave of communication as it maximizes the power of digital solutions and enables applications straight from the palm of your hands,” said Gerhard Tan, director and head of network strategy and technology enablement at Globe. “This brings differentiated services that are tailor-fit to customer needs.”

During the testing, Globe configured four network slices end to end with a dedicated quality of service and bandwidth allocation. It also completed testing and validation of the configured bandwidth, with speed test results of up to 200 Mbps for downloads and 100 Mbps for uploads on one specific slice.
