The Croatian Regulatory Agency for Network Activities (Hakom) announced the results of the multi-band spectrum auction, awarding national licences to all three existing mobile network operators. Started in January, the process lasted six weeks and raised a total of EUR 339 million. The licences are valid for 15 years with the possibility of extension for up to five years.
Hrvatski Telekom said it won the largest share of spectrum, spending a total EUR 135.3 million. The operator obtained 2×10 MHz in the 800 MHz band, 2×15 MHz in the 900 MHz band, 2×30 MHz in the 1,800 MHz band, 2×25 MHz in the 2,100 MHz band and 2×25 MHz in 2,600 MHz band, all on the national level.
Telemach invested EUR 94.4 million and obtained 2×10 MHz in the 800 MHz band, 2×5 MHz in the 900 MHz band, 2×20 MHz in the 1,800 MHz band, 2×20 MHz in the 2,100 MHz band and 2×20 MHz in the 2,600 MHz frequency bands.
For its part, A1 Hrvatska will pay EUR 109.28 million for 2×10 MHz in the 800 MHz band, 2×15 MHz in the 900 MHz band, 2×25 MHz in the 1,800 MHz band, 2×15 MHz in the 2,100 MHZ band and 2×25 MHz in the 2,600 MHz band.
The current licences for all these bands expire in 2024, so the new awards ensure continuous, uninterrupted services. The licences come with an obligation to provide a minimum level of service to 99.4 percent of the population of Croatia by the end of 2029, including speeds of 10 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload outdoors.
Hakom also auctioned remaining regional spectrum blocks in the 3.6 GHz band. After three rounds of bidding, this part of the auction raised EUR 187,150.
