Telia Estonia has laid out its plans for 2024, saying it aims to have 95% 5G coverage by the end of the year, up from 75% currently. The firm says it will also be expanding its fixed broadband infrastructure; 562,000 households were able to connect to fixed broadband services of at least 100Mbps at the start of the year. Telia noted that annual mobile data traffic tripled between 2018 and 2023, while fixed broadband traffic more than doubled. In 2023 alone, internet traffic in Telia’s networks increased by approximately 20%.
Andre Visse, Telia’s Chief Technology Officer, commented: ‘In the last six years, we have invested nearly EUR330 million [USD361 million] in the Estonian market, or an average of EUR55 million per year. Most of these investments have gone into developing networks, increasing the continuity of services, improving quality.’
