Brazil’s National Telecommunications Agency (Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes, Anatel) has confirmed that 3.5GHz licensees are now able to activate 5G services in a further 347 municipalities, as per the recommendations of the Group for the Implementation of Solutions for Interference Problems (Grupo de Acompanhamento da Implantacao das Solucoes para os Problemas de Interferencia, GAISPI).

The 347 locations – which encompass 19.5 million Brazilians, or 9.1% of the population – include:

· 177 municipalities with fewer than 30,000 inhabitants;

· 111 municipalities with between 30,000 and 100,000 inhabitants;

· 37 cities with between 100,000 and 200,000 inhabitants; and

· 22 cities with over 200,000 inhabitants.

In total, 487 towns and cities have now been approved for 3.5GHz Standalone (SA) 5G use, equating to 86 million Brazilians, or 40% of the population.
