Telekom Deutschland’s Wholesale business in Germany is set to become an independent management area alongside the Technology, Sales and Service, Human Resources, Finance, Consumer and Business Customer departments from 1 April. The Wholesale unit, which generated revenue of EUR2.7 billion (USD2.8 billion) last year, is responsible for ensuring that more than 250 companies in Germany can use Telekom’s network services on fair and commercial terms. It focuses on wholesale services for consumer products in the areas of internet and telephony, including fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connections, as well as wholesale services for individual site networks.

In a separate announcement, Telekom has revealed that it expanded the capacity and coverage of its mobile network at 1,327 locations nationwide in the last seven weeks. The firm rolled out 320 new sites using 4G and 5G frequencies and increased capacity at 1,007 existing LTE and 5G network sites. Telekom reports that 95% of the population are now covered by 5G services, with around 8,200 antennas transmitting in the 3.7GHz band. By 2025 5G coverage will be increased to 99% of homes.
