ZTE announced it is partnering China Mobile’s internal research divisions to deploy enhanced 5G connectivity at the forthcoming Asian Games cycling event in Hangzhou. The 5G network at the Asian Games velodrome will include a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS).
RIS is a reprogrammable surface module that hosts multi-antennas and directs signals from the surface to receivers, which means 5G network users should have access to superior reception and link quality. As well as 5G upgrades, RIS is expected to drive take-up of 6G networks once the spectrum capacity is ready.
ZTE said its 5G application of the technology has significantly increased signal coverage quality and user rate, which will assist with meeting crowd connectivity requirements in the cycling stadium.
Hangzhou will welcome fans from across Asia for the 19th Asian Games starting 23 September. Network operator China Mobile has agreed a deal to act as the event’s official network “guarantee”, working at the transmitter side to cope with the inevitable video streaming surge expected as people access HD live broadcasts, as well as other IT services around the host city.
