Kazakhstan mobile operators Kcell and Tele2 won the first two lots of a tender for 5G spectrum, reports Pofit.kz. A consortium formed by Kcell and Tele2 Kazakhstan, which are both part of the Kazakhtelecom group, won both blocks. The first lot for the 3,600-3,700 MHz band was acquired for KZT 62.670 billion, and the second lot for the 3,700-3,800 MHz band cost KZT 93.400 billion. Both operators will deploy more than 7,000 5G base stations.

Tele2 Kazakhstan/Altel launched its first pilot 5G areas in the city of Almaty in autumn 2021. In December 2021, Kcell launched its 5G network in the city of Turkestan.
