Nokia has signed an agreement to install 5G infrastructure for Claro Argentina (America Movil) across the country’s largest cities. As the sole supplier, Nokia said it will deploy equipment from its 5G AirScale portfolio, powered by its ReefShark System-on-Chip technology, base stations, baseband units and its latest generation of Massive MIMO radios.
The Finnish vendor added that Claro Argentina will be the first customer to deploy its Interleaved Passive Active Antenna (IPAA+) technology across the entire site footprint. The antenna’s compact and modular design supports a wide range of frequencies, from 700 MHz to 2.6 GHz, and the 3.5 GHz 5G band, helping Claro meet the challenge of finding additional space on towers and rooftops.
Claro acquired 100 MHz of spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band for USD 350 million in last year’s tender of 5G-compatible frequencies.
