NOW Telecom has reportedly confirmed talks with the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) to roll out a 5G network in the Philippines. According to local press the telecoms operator, which is owned by the Velarde family, has teamed up with the US government on the deployment, which aims to ‘provide faster and more reliable digital services and increased broadband internet access for Filipinos countrywide’.

NOW Telecom has launched a pre-5G service offering speeds of ‘up to 2Gbps’ to the enterprise sector and now aims to extend this to the residential market via both fixed wireless access (FWA) and mobile devices. Further, it has signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with SBA Towers Philippines, a unit of SBA Communications Corp, to install equipment to provide telecoms and internet services.
