Orange Romania has expanded its 5G network to Suceava, enabling customers with a 5G subscription and compatible handset to access theoretical download speeds of up to 1.2Gbps and average transfer rates of 600Mbps. The operator’s 5G mobile services are now available in 21 cities across the country, including Arad, Bacau, Craiova, Brasov, Bucharest (100% coverage), Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, Iasi and Timisoara, as well as towns in Ilfov County, mountain and summer resorts. Business customers in these locations can also access high speed broadband connectivity using the company’s Office Net 5G broadband fixed wireless access service.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s Commsupdate, Orange Romania secured user rights to 220MHz of frequencies in the 700MHz, 1500MHz and 3400MHz-3800MHz bands in the 5G spectrum auction which concluded earlier this month, paying EUR264.6 million (USD271.8 million). In a press release, the operator highlighted ‘the acquired spectrum will contribute, over the next 25 years, to the development of the latest technologies such as 5G, but also future innovations in national mobile communications, which will offer customers high-performance services as well as the highest standard of coverage and connectivity.’
