T-Mobile Netherlands has upgraded its first hundred mobile transmission masts with the latest Ericsson equipment as a first step towards a completely new 5G network, under its plan to install new Ericsson technology at 5,000 masts throughout the Netherlands by summer 2024, raising network capacity and data speeds.
In summer 2022 T-Mobile announced a long-term commitment with Ericsson to supply the mobile network, for 5G as well as 3G/4G. The tender process looked at quality, equipment performance, innovation, sustainability and cost, among other factors. A successful pilot was subsequently held in the Alkmaar region, and the partners reported that, following an intensive preparation process, the mobile network renewal project is now underway.
