Telefonica conducts industrial 5G pilot at Bogota event

Telefonica’s Movistar Empresas subsidiary in Colombia has unveiled a 5G-powered robotic dog device called “WillBot” (Wilson Bot) at the third edition of its Hispam Digital Forum event in Bogota. After activating a dedicated 5G node in collaboration with Huawei to transmit the event, Movistar Empresas carried out a number of industry-focused demonstrations using WillBot.

The company said the quadruped can be used for environmental monitoring and inspection purposes in factories, substations, urban underground pipeline corridors and other places, carrying out tasks that cannot be done manually.

Movistar Empresas also carried out a practical demonstration of its recent alliance with Starlink, through the global business unit Telefonica Global Solutions (TGS). The deal will allow customers to reach download speeds of 100Mbps, coupled with 20ms latency, even in remote locations via Starlink’s constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites.
