Telekom Romania Mobile Communications said it started offering unlimited 5G access to both prepaid and postpaid customers. The company initially offers access to 5G in Bucharest (including Otopeni) and ten other cities: Brasov (including Poiana Brasov), Sibiu, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Iasi, Constanta (including Mamaia), Ploiesti, Craiova, Pitesti, and Oradea. The 5G service can be accessed by all users who have a 5G compatible SIM and terminal and are in the coverage area.
Telekom said the 5G launch benefited from the support of Samsung as an implementation partner to ensure terminal compatibility.
The launch comes even though the operator did not join the 5G auction organised by the Romanian state through the telecommunications authority Ancom in 2022.
