Telia Company said it has provided a 5G testbed for an acute hospital in Stockholm for a trial to improve patient safety and communication in the medical profession. Stockholm regional administration is behind the location-independent mobile treatment project, which is due to report its progress in H1 2023. Applications could include live video communication between paramedics in ambulances and hospital emergency departments, or to provide up-to-date information about hospital premises.
Project partners include ambulatory treatment organisation Ambulanssjukvarden i Storstockholm (AISAB), care provider Tiohundra, Karolinska University Hospital, Locum, Dedalus and Stockholm county’s healthcare administration. Telia is responsible for operating and developing the 5G test bed, and is contributing innovation and technical competence.
One of the aims of the trial is to work out the technical requirements placed on the 5G network and the systems connected by it. Magnus Leonhardt, head of strategy and innovation in Telia’s business division, said new technology could improve the quality and accessibility of patient treatment.
