Independent Dutch MVNO and fixed broadband/TV/voice operator Youfone activated 5G access for all existing and new consumer and B2B mobile customers with suitable devices on 8 February 2023. The SIM-only mobile provider announced that all its packages now enable 5G with maximum mobile data speeds of 256Mbps (download)/150Mbps (upload), at no extra cost to the user. On its website Youfone, which provides mobile services via KPN’s network, compares its peak data speeds to three rival budget mobile brands owned by T-Mobile Netherlands: Tele2 Netherlands (5G, 225Mbps/75Mbps); Ben (4G, 100Mbps/10Mbps); and Simpel (4G, 75Mbps/10Mbps).
TeleGeography notes that Youfone launched MVNO services in December 2008 hosted by KPN with a focus on the budget segment, while in October 2017 it launched pay-TV services following its takeover of multi-play operator Mobicross, and in January 2019 it introduced 500Mbps fibre broadband services over KPN’s infrastructure, upgrading an existing fixed broadband range based on xDSL, before expanding its portfolio again in July 2022 with fixed/mobile bundling offers. In May 2021, meanwhile, Youfone also launched mobile services in Belgium over the Proximus network.
