Globe Telecom has added Voice-over-New Radio (VoNR) capability for customers making voice calls on its 5G Standalone (SA) network. Marking what it terms ‘a pioneering voice solution … that promises enhanced voice quality, rapid call setup and seamless handovers,’ the telco confirmed the launch at an event held in its Taguig headquarters. The deployment was supported by technology partner HPE Singapore.
Globe is not the only Filipino mobile operator working actively on VoNR. As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate rival Smart Communications teamed up with South Korea’s Samsung Electronics back in January 2022 to complete successful VoNR tests at the PLDT-Smart Technolab in Makati City.
