Costa Rica state-owned operator ICE said its Racsa unit has officially launched a 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) service, supported by what it describes as the country’s first and only network designed for this technology. Racsa will use the 3.5 GHz band for the network, which is designed to promote the development of new services for companies, institutions and SMEs.
Subscribers will be able to access top FWA download speeds of 1 Gbps in both urban and rural areas, allowing them to simultaneously connect hundreds of devices without interruptions or speed losses, said Racsa, adding that the service will above all boost activities such as video conferencing, telemedicine, smart city development, robotics and critical processes.
The launch of 5G FWA follows Liberty Costa Rica’s recent introduction of a commercial 5G service in central parts of the country, including the capital, San Jose, the Greater Metropolitan Area, Heredia and Alajuela.
