Uzbek mobile operator Mobiuz has reported further developments in its fledgling 5G network rollout, with 16 5G base stations operational in test mode in the city of Samarkand. The move follows state-owned Mobiuz’s recent commercial launch of 5G services in limited areas of Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent, as previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate.

In Samarkand, Mobiuz’s 5G base stations were initially installed at the ‘Silk Road Samarkand’ tourism centre, in central districts of the city, at the main railway station and at the Mobiuz Service Centre. Investment for the operator’s ongoing network development comes from Chinese project partners as well as the company’s own funds.
