Ookla’s Karim Yaici breaks down which regions and service providers are leading the charge in 5G standalone and what this means for enterprises and consumers.

On a global scale, regions such as India, the US and Southeast Asia are leading the way in adoption of 3GPP’s 5G standalone (SA) standard. With 5G SA comes faster, more automated enterprise network platforms and improved support for low-latency applications and data transmission across Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

Karim Yaici, lead industry analyst of the Middle East and Africa for Ookla, recently published a report on global progress deploying 5G SA.

“While 5G SA deployments appear to have slowed in 2023 compared to previous years, we expect momentum to increase from 2024 due to rising enterprise demand for private networks and interest in network slicing, as well as consumer demand for immersive gaming and VR applications,” Yaici writes.
