TIM Brasil and Huawei have successfully completed the first 5G tests in the 6 GHz band in the Americas, according to O Globo. The operator installed an antenna in Olympic Park in Rio de Janeiro, reproducing real challenges faced in urban areas with obstacles such as trees and buildings.

TIM said the results were comparable with 3.5 GHz band spectrum, with an average speed of 888 Mbps at a distance of 700 metres and reaching peaks of 1.38 Gbps. On 5G standalone the maximum speed was around 1.6Gbps. The 6 GHz frequency spectrum will be used as backup when the 3.5 GHz frequency is overloaded.
