United Arab Emirates (UAE) fixed and mobile operator Du says it has achieved a major milestone in the implementation of 5G technology, as it begins the deployment of multi-carrier aggregation in its commercial mobile network. The upgrade will utilise three 100MHz carriers in the 2.6GHz and 3.5GHz bands, tripling existing data speeds. The multi-carrier deployment will be focused on fixed wireless home broadband services.

Saleem AlBlooshi, Chief Technology Officer at Du, said: ‘Since inception, Du has placed immense importance on continuously enhancing the user experience and has been staying ahead of the curve when it comes to connectivity demands of UAE consumers. We anticipate that in the near future average bandwidth demands of users will increase multi-folds. Multi-carrier aggregation is a proven way to enhance the peak and average throughputs of wireless networks.’
