Airtel Kenya, the country’s second largest mobile operator by subscriptions, has launched commercial 5G services. Customers can access the new high speed network via a 5G home broadband router or a range of 5G-compatible mobile smartphones and devices. Upon activating a 5G device on the Airtel network and completing the Know Your Customer (KYC) registration process, customers will receive a one-time data bonus of 10GB. Coverage is currently available across 16 counties and 180 wards, via more than 370 5G sites. Main cities covered include Mombasa, Nakuru, Nairobi, Athi River, Kisumi, Kakamega, Siaya, Eldoret and Bungoma.
