China Telecom led the growth in mobile subscribers in China in December 2021, with a net increase of 490,000, ending the month with 372.43 million in total. China Mobile added only 109,000 customers in the month, but remains the largest mobile operator on the local market with a total of 956.89 million mobile customers. China Unicom ended December with 317.11 million mobile customers, down by 225,000 from November.

China Mobile claimed the biggest gain in 5G subscribers, growing by nearly 12.5 million in December to 386.80 million 5G customers. China Telecom added more than 9 million 5G users in the month to reach a total of 187.80 million, and China Unicom counted 154.92 million 5G customers in December, up by 5.38 million from the previous month.

In the wireline broadband market, China Mobile lost 459,000 customers for a total of 240.10 million. China Unicom grew by 212,000 new customers to a total of 95.04 million, and China Telecom lost 160,000 customers for a base of 106.64 million broadband subscribers at end-December 2021.
