The Philippines’ third telco DITO Telecommunity (formerly Mislatel) now intends to launch a fixed wireless access (FWA) product using its 5G network in the first quarter of 2022, having initially slated 2021 to commercialise services. The firm’s investor relations officer Leo Venezuela noted that DITO is looking to establish itself as a credible alternative to PLDT Inc. and Globe Telecom, adding: ‘We are currently undergoing a test broadcast to ensure the quality of the product that we will be launching sometime in the first quarter of 2022’.

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database writes that in a press briefing dated 9 September 2021 DITO chief technology officer Rodolfo Santiago had said the telco was in the process of conducting a ‘user friendly test’ for the new home broadband service. ‘We know that this is the faster way of providing fixed broadband services to the home. Short- and medium-term, we are going to use 5G FWA as our means of providing that service, but eventually, we are going to [deliver] fibre-to-the-home [FTTH},’ he said.
