Entel 5G network reaches 67 communes

Chilean full-service provide Entel has completed around 45% of its planned 5G rollout, with coverage of 67 communes across nine regions. The company launched its 5G service in December last year, announcing at the time that it would invest USD230 million on the technology with the goal of achieving nationwide coverage within two years. Regarding the rollout, Entel’s head of Regulation and Corporate Affairs Manuel Araya was quoted as saying: ‘5G is key for us and we want as many people as possible to have access to this technology, which is why the deployment will incorporate new areas as we continue to advance with the development of this network. It is important to point out that its deployment will be gradual and its development will take several years, given the works and investments it requires.’

The operator noted that its 5G network is currently accessible by users with certain devices from manufacturers Samsung, Xiaomi, Motorola, Vivo and Oppo. In addition, last month the network was made available to the operator’s 100,000 customers with compatible Apple iPhone devices. According to Entel, around 400,000 of its users have 5G compatible smartphones, 200,000 of which have used the network to date.
