Globe Telecom announced today (28 November) that in the first nine months of this year it invested PHP74.4 billion (USD1.31 billion) in CAPEX in its networks, adding 2,951 cell sites to its network including 1,887 new 5G sites nationwide. Indeed, Globe’s 5G outdoor coverage reached 97.1% of the National Capital Region (NCR) and 87.7% of key cities in the Visayas and Mindanao by 30 September 2022; it reported over three million devices in its 5G network at the same date. On top of this, the company noted it added a further 1,064 BTS to its network, upgraded 10,660 BTS to 4G LTE, completed some tower builds and added an additional 400,000 fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) lines for a total of 1.4 million at end-September.
Commenting on the carrier’s network modernisation, Joel Agustin, Head of Network Planning and Engineering, said: ‘Globe’s network rollout momentum continues and is expected to surpass last year’s builds,’ adding, ‘these accelerated upgrading and network expansion efforts will not only deliver a more consistent level of network quality but will elevate the standard of connectivity in the country.’
