The Italian government has selected seven cities to set up local centres to promote 5G technology. The municipality-led ‘Emerging Technology Houses’ will be set up in Bologna, Naples, Genoa, Taranto, Pesaro, Cagliari and Campobasso, with the aim of encouraging small and medium-sized businesses to participate in research projects and adopt the latest technologies.

The winning projects were announced by the ministry of industry (Mise). They will receive a total of EUR 80 million from the regional development and cohesion funds. Similar centres have opened already in cities including Bari, Rome, Turin and L’Aquila.
