Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications Institute (Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones, IFT) has approved its ‘Annual Work Programme 2022’, paving the way for a 5G spectrum auction to take place later this year. As per an announcement on the regulator’s website, the frequency sale will include the following bands: 600MHz, 1500MHz (L-band), 3.3GHz and 3.5GHz. The IFT will now prepare draft bidding rules ahead of a public consultation, as well as establishing the duration of the concessions, coverage obligations, participation limitations and payment schedules. A precise date for the final auction has not yet been disclosed.
