India’s Union Cabinet has approved the launch of auctions for eight spectrum bands for mobile phone services. The government plans to auction a total of 10,523 MHz of spectrum. The base price for the spectrum has been set at INR 963.17 billion. These spectrum licenses will be valid for 20 years. 

The government says all the available spectrum in 800, 900, 1800, 2100, 2300, 2500, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz bands will be put on auction. According to an official government statement, as recommended by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the reserve prices for various bands have been revised using suitable indexation. The reserve price will be INR 963.17 billion.
