Telecom Argentina (Personal) has disclosed plans to extend 5G coverage to the seaside resorts of Mar del Plata, Pinamar and Carilo during the course of this month. The telco has enlisted Huawei to activate a total of ten cell sites across the three locations, which will be made available on an ‘experimental basis’. Four antennas will be deployed in Playa Bristol, Varese, Mogotes and Playa Grande (all Mar del Plata), five sites are scheduled to go live in Pinamar, delivering coverage to the entire town, while the final 5G site will cover downtown Carilo.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate, Personal launched ten 5G mobile antennas in the cities of Buenos Aires and Rosario in February 2021. The five mobile sites in Buenos Aires were deployed by Huawei, while the Rosario infrastructure utilised Nokia technology. The 5G network re-farms existing 4G frequencies, via a Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) configuration.

In terms of 4G coverage, the telco says it now delivers LTE/LTE-A coverage to 97.6% of the population.
