Costa Rica’s state utility/telecoms firm Grupo ICE has announced that its Radiografica Costarricense (RACSA) unit will deploy private business networks based on 5G technology before the end of this year. The private 5G networks will target government clients, alongside the industrial, agricultural, logistics, SME and corporate segments. Looking ahead, Grupo ICE expects to oversee the ‘massive commercialisation’ of 5G in 2024, suggesting a commercial rollout will take place next year. RACSA, which has been accused of under-utilising its 5G-suitable spectrum, currently holds a 100MHz block of 3.5GHz spectrum.
