Nokia announced today (22 February) that it has won a ten-year deal to build out a new 5G Standalone (SA) network in Singapore for Antina, the joint venture (JV) formed by mobile network operators M1 and StarHub, as well as improving the pair’s existing network infrastructure throughout the city-state. Following a competitive tender process, the Finnish vendor confirmed it remains Antina’s sole supplier and that going forward, it will deploy a 5G SA network for both indoor and outdoor coverage as well as expand the existing network utilising Antina’s 3.5GHz spectrum holdings.
In a press release, Nokia outlined that under the deal it will equip new buildings throughout the city-state with its AirScale indoor Radio (ASiR) small cell solution for seamless indoor coverage. It will also provide equipment from its ‘energy-efficient AirScale portfolio’ including 5G base stations, massive MIMO adaptive antennas for urban and wide-area coverage as well as dual-band remote radio heads (RRH). Further, Antina will utilise its spectrum in the 2.1GHz (n1) and 3.5GHz (n78) bands to optimise capacity and coverage.
