Swedish telecoms group Tele2 has selected Finnish vendor Nokia as its supplier for the deployment of 5G RAN equipment in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The group announced that the nationwide rollouts in each of the Baltic states would begin once sufficient spectrum is acquired in each market. With the conclusion in late December of the auction of 700MHz spectrum in Latvia, Tele2’s Latvian unit now has spectrum in both the 700MHz and 3.5GHz ranges and, as such, is equipped with the necessary airwaves to begin the rollout of nationwide 5G networks. Auctions for 5G spectrum in Estonia and Lithuania are expected to take place in 2022, the operator added.
