Telefonica Deutschland, which provides fixed and mobile services under the brand name O2, has announced that coverage of its 5G network has reached 82% of the population. Since the start of the year, the operator has activated around 1,000 5G sites, of which 200 operate in the 3.6GHz band in areas including Berlin, Hamburg, Bremen, Essen, Munich, Magdeburg and around 50 other cities. At around 600 additional locations, Telefonica is now supplying 5G in the 700MHz band, and the firm has also rolled out Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) at further mobile sites, combining 4G and 5G. By the end of 2023, Telefonica is aiming to cover 90% of the country’s population with 5G, with coverage reaching the entire population by 2025.
