Telenor Sweden has re-launched its fixed wireless access (FWA) broadband service which is aimed at home users and small businesses in rural areas without fibre connectivity. The offer is being described as ‘5G-ready’ but still runs on Telenor’s 4G LTE network as there is currently very little 5G coverage in rural regions. Telenor 5G is available in 37 cities across Sweden, but the footprint will be widened during 2022 and 2023, to reach 90% of the population by the end of next year and to extend nationwide by end-2024. Telenor has been providing a 4G-based FWA product since 2011.
