TIM Brasil has confirmed that it has staged a ‘soft-launch’ of its Standalone (SA) 5G core. SA 5G access is currently restricted to TIM Brasil employees at the company’s headquarters in Rio de Janeiro; the network leverages the 2.3GHz band. According to TeleTime, Huawei and Ericsson supplied the network equipment that is being used for the soft-launch.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, in November 2021 TIM Brasil successfully bid on 5G-suitable spectrum in the 2.3GHz, 3.5GHz and 26GHz bands. TIM paid BRL1.05 billion (USD190 million) for eleven lots of spectrum and is obliged to offer 5G services in all state capitals and the Federal District (Distrito Federal) by 31 July 2022.
