Italian telco WINDTRE is reportedly interested in acquiring the assets of OpNet, the wholesale network operator which was once part of fixed wireless access (FWA) provider Linkem. The acquisition of OpNet would boost WINDTRE’s 5G spectrum holdings, adding 60MHz of frequencies in the 3.5GHz band.

WINDTRE currently has a 5G network sharing deal with Fastweb and another with Iliad Italy covering rural areas of the country. Its 3.7GHz 5G network reached around 71% of the population at the end of 2023. WINDTRE is owned by CK Hutchison Group Telecom (CKHGT) via 3 Group Europe.
