Croatian operator Hrvatski Telekom has equipped the new container terminal in Rijeka with a 5G network in partnership with Rijeka Gateway, a joint venture between AP Moller-Maersk and the Enna Group. The new terminal, set to commence operations in 2025, will become a testing ground for advanced 5G applications. Notably, it will transition from the current 5G NSA architecture to the more sophisticated 5G SA architecture, HT said.

The 5G network will support the terminal’s ambitious goals of environmental sustainability, remote crane operations, and advanced energy management systems. The Rijeka Gateway project represents a substantial investment of EUR 380 million and is considered a strategic initiative for Croatia. It is expected to revitalize the local economy and position Rijeka as a leading container port in Europe.
