Alaskan telecoms operator GCI has extended its 5G coverage to Juneau, the state’s capital city. The cellco notes that the Lena Point, Mendenhall Valley and Lemon Creek areas now have access to 5G. GCI says it has invested approximately USD3.3 million in its Juneau 5G deployment to date and expects to activate more 5G cell sites by the end of the year. GCI was the first US cellco to launch 5G services in Alaska when it switched on its network in Anchorage in April 2020. 5G connectivity was subsequently extended to Fairbanks and the Mat-Su (aka the Matanuska-Susitna Valley).
